Josefine and Mario share an interest in epochal repertorial diversity, different instrumentations and special themes.

The topos "Ophelia" has occupied Josefine for a long time; with program drafts that combine songs by Debussy, Chausson, Strauss and Rihm, the duo has approached the character Ophelia via floral-enigmatic worlds.

réBelles! portraits lyriques

In "réBelles! portraits lyriques. Frauenbilder 1900-2020” Josefine presented a song concept that reached Ophelia as a clustering point at the end of the program, after the female archetypes from the context of the Bible (Vierge), fairytale world (Sirène) and everyday life (Héroïne) were discussed in three further blocks.

Feminine self-determination today, identity, the reality of life and stereotypes are questions in the room.

"reBelles! portraits lyriques" was produced in 2020-2022 as a CD in co-production with Deutschlandfunk and the Munich label Solo Musica, released physically and digitally worldwide in April 2022. - The European specialist press responded with high praise for the interplay, vocal excellence and richness of colour, pianistic empathy and brilliant intelligence of the concept presented as a total work of art with photographs citing (self-)portraits of women as inspiration.

réBelles! le concert & réBelles! le festival

With the support of the "Neustart Kultur Ensemble" from the German Music Council and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media in cooperation with the Heidelberg Spring Music Festival and the Heidelberg Song Center, Josefine further developed "réBelles!" with the working title "femal(E)motion" for performative performance approaches :

In development phase 1, Josefine worked with filmmaker Jan Speckenbach and costume designer Martha Lange, with generous access to the Volksbühne Berlin fundus, and developed a black-and-white video projection accompanying the entire program with cinematic references to Carl Theodor Dreyer and Jean-Luc Godard.

Development phase 2 included the collaboration with the choreographer Kathlyn Pope, in which space, costume and projection were combined in a multimedia and interdisciplinary manner. This large-scale performative version was performed in August 2022 as part of "réBelles! le festival" with an education program and panel discussion in the St. Elisabeth Church in Berlin-Mitte, which is highly popular for avant-garde spatial concepts.

In this way, the song duo Josefine Göhmann & Mario Häring discover new worlds for themselves and the audience, to live and experience songs and to let a genre that has been declared dead participate in the current socio-political and socio-cultural discourse.

The duo was featured in several Deutschlandfunk programs such as “Musik-Panorama” (“réBelles! portraits lyriques”, “Female anger: Hildegard, Wagner and female furor”) and “Wortspiel. The Musical Conversation” and presented to a broad, nationwide radio audience. The music journalist Jonas Zerweck was the editor in charge.
